Nothing is worse than a mere critic. Critics never offer solutions.
At Wild & Kingdom, we are not into a rant. We are, however, very much committed to finding a pathway out of where we find men struggling to gain shelter in a world coming for them, and their families, and their cultures. And a pathway we will offer, but first we must give a context.
For decades, the puppet masters behind modern media have waged a persistent campaign against the biblical model of masculinity, systematically replacing strong, principled male role models with weak, bumbling caricatures that mock God’s design for manhood.
And they took their time.
It takes roughly one nautical mile to for an aircraft carrier to make a u-turn. How do you turn an aircraft carrier in the ocean? Easy. Constant pressure on the rudder.
And that’s how we wind up with a woke culture surrounding men today; and the Church is not exempt in the struggle.
The Bible speaks often of mockers, scoffers, and deceivers, referring to such people and such movements as the enemies of God.
Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. – 2 Peter 3:3
The Bible also reveals who the real entity is: dominions and principalities that war against the very nature of God. (2 Corinthians 10;4-5)
These enemies were brilliant in the approach they took: they purchased the propaganda machine.
They purchased the movie studios, the cinemas, the radio stations, the publishing distribution channels, and modern television production companies to carry out the mission.
In effect, they purchased the microphone.
Cloaked in comedic SitComs, radio shows, movies, and news channels, it was truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing movement, one that has spent decades of putting constant pressure on what redefining what is acceptable in terms of truth and culture.
This cultural shift represents more than mere entertainment trends—it reflects a deliberate effort to undermine the foundational truths about masculine leadership that Scripture so clearly establishes.
In 1950 you rarely if ever saw men sexually confused. Today … our schools and our sitcoms praise anyone who pursuing gender fluidity.
Imagery of Masculine Virtue
Consider the stark contrast between yesterday’s heroes and today’s male protagonists.Metaphoric imagery seen in people like John Wayne or Roy Rogers or Andy Griffith embodied courage, integrity, and unwavering moral conviction. Sports figures leading up to the early 1990s never tried to hide masculine virtue.
These characters stood firm in their principles, protected the innocent, and demonstrated strength.
And don’t even try and make an argument that we at Wild & Kingdom are advocating for moving backward to a throwback culture of the good ol’ days.
I actually grew up in the 1970s and 80s. And there was plenty of toxic masculinity to abound, far, far more actually than you see today despite what pop culture media outlets try and sell you.
My mother trained three men that eventually, one by one, became her boss. Leapfrogging her all together. Those eras were wrought with inequality. So, no, none of this is an argument to return to those days.
It is no worse today than it was back then.
Let’s keep focus here and talk about the real issue: what is the target definition of manhood?
These portrayals we see in those eras had a much stronger reflection of biblical masculinity: men who were providers, protectors, and spiritual leaders.
They carried grit and resolve around like it was cologne on their skin.
These characters inspired boys to become men of character and showed society what masculinity looked like in action.

The Gradual Erosion
The transformation didn’t happen overnight.Beginning in the 1990s and accelerating through subsequent decades, Hollywood began subtly shifting its portrayal of men.
Strong fathers became absent or ineffective. Commercials on mainstream television began showing families that had no father present.
Masculine virtues like courage and moral conviction were increasingly depicted as outdated or even toxic masculinity.
The culture began celebrating sensitivity over strength, feelings over facts, and consensus over conviction.
This erosion gained momentum in the 1990s with shows like “Everybody Loves Raymond,” where Ray Barone exemplified the new masculine ideal: passive, conflict-averse, and perpetually subordinate to female authority.
In that era, the character of Ray consistently demonstrated weakness where Scripture calls for strength, avoided responsibility where God demands accountability, and abdicated leadership where the Bible establishes male headship in the home.
Look, it’s fiction, not reality. Nobody here is blaming Ray Romano for anything. He played a character.
Yet never think that the motives behind pop culture producers of media are simply to make the viewer laugh and enjoy some downtime.Everything … EVERYTHING pop culture media does is by design.
And that doesn’t stop with the messaging behind sitcoms.
The Modern Male: A Cautionary Tale
Today’s television and film and social media landscape presents masculinity as inherently problematic.
And that … brothers … is the problem.
Men are portrayed as either incompetent buffoons who stumble through life requiring constant female intervention, or as aggressive villains whose traditional masculine traits make them dangerous. The concept of the biblical model of strong leadership has been virtually eliminated from mainstream media.
This systematic deconstruction serves a broader cultural agenda that rebels against God’s created order.
Reclaiming Biblical Manhood
The antidote to Hollywood’s distorted masculinity is not a return to mere cultural nostalgia, but a renewal of biblical manhood that reflects God’s design for male leadership, rooted in love, service, and unwavering commitment to truth.
For that, you better have a plan. Because, woke culture already has their plan in place funded by millions of dollars in the media industry. For more on how to build a plan, click this link on MAPPING MANHOOD
Everything hinges on having an answer for “what does it mean to be a man?”
In Wild & Kingdom’s episode entitled “ReadyMan” we cover the concept that manhood starts with being prepared as a man.
In the podcast portion of the show, also found on the YouTube channel, we take a deep dive into how a man can craft his model for manhood in order to live out Kingdom values, lead his family, and change the culture around him.
